European Championship Formula Chronicle - By Pablo Ania

pablo-ania-esp-16.JPG A chronicle of the European Championship Formula Windsurfing Championship in Santa Pola, personally narrated by the Youth European Champion, Paul Ania ESP-16:

This has been one of the best races in which I participated, very good organization and the treatment of windsurfers: We had food every day, wifi, tents for the material, massage and did not let us aburriéramos a moment.

Days before: We arrived on Saturday and we were amazed that they had assembled. That same day I pour the water with my Severne Code Red 2 11m. And everybody was around and I was trying all day with Alex Buchau, Alberto Cano and all machines. The next day we had wind over land and looser, yet we would be about 50 in the water and sail rocked so many people try to go with them, etc..

On Monday begin the registration and registration material. First thing we signed and sealed. I sealed the Code Red 2, 11m and 10m, and 11m Code Red 1 parts. Fin sealed the Drake R-19 series this year and finished receiving Deboichet R19 S-70 and R13 R8 R6 S 70.

That same day we had a lot of wind. After leaving first thing in 10.0 and hit me a couple of blown material ... let me freestyle and sailed for a while. In the afternoon, encouraged canaries, Albert, Alex, Cisco, all but Ferdinand, who yanked riding on the shoulder and could not navigate. With the 10m taut butt felt good, fast and being with people, but had very strong runs in which even the canaries had to get stronger. In the end I picked up and see the machines going "lijaos".

Tuesday, first day of racing: At midday the wind begins to enter the two candles and amount in case. Split the fleet in blue and yellow, I happened on the yellow with most Spanish: Alberto, Fernando, Cisco, Hugo .. In the first race where I was leaving the Alex Buchau blue, yellow and see the output looks like Ross Williams, who went by land, comes up pretty bad when Steve Allen left to port you are quite better. As was the thing I decided to go to port along with Alberto and Fernando. The wind was very fair to the exit, got out planning to port and quite well placed while Alberto and Fernando had to turn. Unfortunately the role hit the ground and everything that had gone lost it .. I was going up the full beam and finally finished the 20 and 4 in Youth (up to 21 years), I knew a little because he believed he could have been better. Fernando Alberto was 11 and 13, meanwhile, in the blue fleet Alex did a very good 8th place.

The next few days to 8 knots, up to 10 but the organization took too long to throw us into the water and when the wind went down, plus there was general calls etc. .. So the weeks passed between volleyball matches and moments in the wifi.

On Friday we went to the water offshore, gusty typical rising and falling, the wind finally dropped and we could not do anything.

On Saturday, last day of competition all seemed lost, as we had to make 2 sleeves each group. At noon began to enter a mild marinade that was established in about 8-10 knots.
Out near the beach and the course was windward - leeward - windward and the arrival was just 100 meters from the windward mark. In the first exit we send the "new" yellow group, where we were from Spanish, Eric Yoldjoglou, Rafael de la Figuera and Alberto Cano. The first output line I try to run but with so little wind was very difficult and I ironed the end I start late and begin to see that going upwind and recovering positions, the board on the starboard extension cord to the pier and float up to see that I about Wojtek (not had a good race). In the stern rowing like a Cossack and spent quite a few people, the second beat I make inward, to port, focusing on doing much angle, I see people up and tacked jugándomela much as he thought that others would. At the end with a board and go out quite well (9 th), my best result so far in Europe. Alberto went well but then lacked pressure (going to 10.7) while the whole world this year is using 11.8; 11.6 or 12m, depending on the brand. In the other group did a piece Alex Buchau 6 th while Fernando was a 12th, not bad as it was practically premiering the new sails.

In the next round was more the bird at the start and did a reasonably good start, I did go to the jetty but this time as I went upwind better managed to win more so at risk of running, went straight to where I could turn buoy quietly and not missing me tight, was among the first 7 in the stern. Some take their chances and try to make the board "ghost", and some are good and I passed out. Arriving at the leeward mark to port shot following a corner wearing an Italian incredible shot by Bruno Bertolo land BY 78 and Jesper DEN-111 and as I saw that the Italian was very inward, before he turned around to try to enter earlier in buoy and then it got coming fifth behind Bruno.
If the Blues managed to make his sleeve was saved the championship, so that those conditions did not think we would do more sleeves. Thank goodness I was wrong, since even gave another manga to both groups.

After that round and was so confident in the final output speed did after Ross Williams and the rest was good start to follow my line, I make the strategy of the previous manga. What changed was that coming in the second beat to the buoy, the buoy Bruno went first, then Arnon Dagan, I, and very close Jesper, but this time the wind had rolled a little and not picked up the arrival of a board, so we had to jibe, I took a little longer to do so and I was right, I started and it was there before I went to Bruno and Arnon Dagan, to finish fifth again.
Being the 4th task and rule out, I placed 14 th overall, 5 th in light, but above all, CHAMPION OF EUROPE YOUTH.
