Hanstholm and Klittemøller: Danes surf spots under threat

Posted on August 2, 2005 in News | Post a comment

We need your help!

Middles, near Hanstholm and Klittemøller, is about to be destroyed by a huge expansion of the port by the construction of a wind farm. The new area occupies 1.1 km and go 130m down into the ocean.

Not only put the wind farm, it will "ensure the coast" filling with sand and cement 150m sea along 2km of coastline, including Middles.

This will bury the reef and there will be no waves to surf. There are many other places to build wind farms in that area, but there is no other place where these waves are generated as perfect in all of northern Europe!

If you've been in Hanstholm or Klittemøller or just want to contribute to not destroy these spots, I would appreciate you will send a letter explaining that they are just spots frequented by Danes, but is a regular destination for European windsurfers. Although there have been, hope your help.

Letters of windsurfers NO Danes (also letters shops, clubs, organizations, etc..) Would be helpful to change the opinion of the local authorities, so please send a letter letting them know how wonderful they are the spots Hanstholm and Klittemøller, not going to take a long time and your participation is vital. At least no one can say you did nothing to save two of the best surf spots in Northern Europe.

If the regional office sees the importance of these spots for windsurfers, maybe the wind farm is relocated elsewhere.
In the picture you can see the brown shaded area is the area that are going to ruin:
