Gran Canaria PWA Grand Slam 2005: Day 8

Daida Moreno glory with a double victory in Freestyle and Waves, Freestyle success Campello and Seadi in waves.

In a spectacular closing day, Ricardo Campello (V-111, JP / Neil Pryde) and Daida Moreno (E-64, Mistral / North) achieve final victory in Freestyle. Campello to beat Victor Fernandez (E-42, Fanatic) and Daida to do the same with Karin Jaggi (Z-14, F2).

The male and female second heat wave has almost been completed today in the morning reached the semifinals in the two tables, but in the afternoon the waves were down and could not continue the competition. This means that Kauli Seadi (BRA-253, Quatro / Naish) gets his first victory in Pozo, standing over Nik Baker (K-66, Mistral / North) and Peter Volwater (H-24, F2) who were second and third, respectively. In the women Daida Moreno (E-64, Mistral / North) gets the crown, with her sister Iballa Moreno (E-63, Mistral / North) in second and Karin Jaggi (Z-14, F2) in third.

Freestyle men:

The final day of competition began with the male and female category. The boys started from the sleeve 62 with the clashes between Antxon Otaegui (E-169, JP / Neil Pryde) and Jose Estredo (V-01, Fanatic / North) and Victor Fernandez (E-42, Fanatic) against Marcilio Browne (BRA-105, Naish / Naish). Estredo was strong enough to beat Fernandez Otaegui while Browne left out. In the next round Estredo fought against Kauli Seadi (BRA-253, Quatro / Naish), the Venezuelan was so strong that it could not be stopped nor the Seadi who remained outside. In the next round Fernandez left out Nick Warmuth (US-36, Starboard / Gaastra). In the next round Estredo also fell into the hands of Fernandez in the semifinals will face Anthony Ruenes (F-85, Tabou / Gaastra). Fernandez quickly showed signs that he would be in the final even though the French did not put it all easy with a huge shaka and a multitude of tricks with variations, but in the end it was Fernandez who would deal in the end the king Ricardo Campello (V-111, JP / Neil Pryde)

With the crowd filling the entire bay Well I get the final measured with a Spanish titlist last year. The final started well for the Spanish, with several punches, a Puneta, shaka, a shove it, a flaka and a backloop the Spanish seemed too Campello failed more than he usually does. However, the final had to be decided in a repeat of the final, Campello did not fail this time except in the shaka with it opened. The Venezuelan threw a lot of movement as spocks, enjoyed's, flaka's, strikeouts and an impressive funnel 900. While the Spanish made other original tricks like switch backloops, wymaroo shaka's and a quick check. But Campello not commit more errors and finished with a switch 540 and a shaka Chachoo perfect. Winning the final of the second heat and therefore the Gran Canaria PWA Grand Slam 2005 freestyle.

Freestyle Women:

In the first race of the day female Unko J Nagoshi (J-11) eliminated Ania Ostrowska (POL-00, Fanatic) and Uli Hoelzl (AUT-123, F2 / Neil Pryde) Yolanda Freites left out of Brend (V-26 , Fanatic / North). In the next round faced Nagoshi Karin Jaggi (Z-14, F2) and Uli Hoelzl Silvia Alba (E-67, Tabou / Gaastra). Jaggi made his typical shove it to keep out Nagoshi and Alba went into quarter-finals at the expense of Hoelzl. In the next round was a Jaggi vs Alba, both played by the sleeve top forwards in and out and going for Jaggi Spocks but in the end was more consistent and thus got the win to get into semi-finals where he was waiting Iballa. The mate began with an air hose while chacho sensational Jaggi pulled a shove it and two that made spocks get into the final against Daida

In the final Jaggi made a stunning performance with a forward opening and going for an aggressive shove it. Meanwhile, Daida made several forwards, and a big backloop completing a flaka. Jaggi made a spock and went for the Backloop who failed to land. Daida showed that he knew these waters like the back of his hand with a radical ponch entering. The decision was certainly difficult, but ultimately was Daida who again managed to win the title of Gran Canaria PWA Grand Slam 2005.

Waves men:

Although the wave double elimination could not finish, both boys and girls offered an incredible show. Both categories could dispute the semifinal, Campello faced this time against Nik Baker (K-66, Mistral / North) and Karin Jaggi Iballa against (Z-14, F2). In the prelude to a semifinal which unfortunately could not be disputed

One of the highlights of the competition were the two who jumped forward huge men with Vidar Jensen (N-44, North) in the lead by winning the award for most courageous (perhaps insane would be the more appropriate term) this was the rider of the day with two one handed double forward. Another competitor who lived up was Robby Swift's (K-89, JP / Neil Pryde) with more double forwards, Kevin Pritchard's (US-3, Starboard / MauiSails) pulled a one hended backloop perfect, Josh Angulo's (US-11 a) a backside 360 and Bjorn Dunkerbeck's (E-11, North) a frontside 360.

After the great success of Gran Canaria PWA Grand Slam 2005, the PWA is going now to Lanzarote for the last event in freestyle and Super X of the year. Will it Matt Pritchard (US-10, Tabou / Gaastra) to obtain the title a second time? Will Ricardo Campello (V-111, JP / Neil Pryde) and Daida Moreno (E-64, Mistral / North) beat their opponents in the Freestyle category? We'll see as of July 9, continue visiting totalwind to know before anyone else the answer to these questions.
