Josh Angulo wins PWA Cabo Verde 2007
Josh Angulo wins the test of Cape Verde Kauli Seadi being the second in one of the best competitions of waves ever recorded in recent times. It appears that Cape Verde will become a must for the PWA in the following years.
After a first round epic, Kauli Seadi victory in the single elimination, all the pros decided to be very early on the beach to prepare for the double elimination.
Broken masts and sails on the rocks one by one with the entire fleet risking their best to move up.
Jason Polakow (JP / NeilPryde) managed to climb to 4th place, behind Kevin Pritchard (Starboard / MauiSails), Kauli in second place.
The same Polakow destroyed 5 or 6 full gear and ended up exhausted from swimming in the surf at Punta Preta tremendous.
Levi Siver (Starboard / NeilPryde) and Alex Mussolini were not so fortunate, but it was impressive to see her challenging style on the wave.
Kevin Pritchard faced Josh Angulo to see who is average in the final against the winner of the single elimination. But Josh chose a better wave and with an incredible aerial twisted house brand, ended the hopes of Kevin.
Josh is going to face against Kauli Seadi (Quatro / Naish) to force other sleeve and compete for the final title.
Angle won the heat as Kauli Seadi took the bold decision to go with 4.0 (Angulo chose 5.8) and ended on the rocks struggling to get out of the surf. Finally got out but he did good surfed were not enough to get the sleeve, leaving everything to the mercy of the final.
The final was played with a series of waves and a half mast right in front of the turret of the judges. Two long waves for everyone. Kauli made an impressive aerial off the lip, followed by several surfed and cutbacks in critical section dangerously near the rocks. Josh attacked with several cutbacks to the limit just below the lip, followed by others in one hand, and two amazing aerials also in the critical section just delnate of judges.
4 votes to 3 were won by Josh Angulo.
Thus, the local hero (acclaimed and cheered by the home crowd) took victory in the biggest sporting event in Cape Verde to date.
Thus ends the official event, but that gives way to a supersession sponsored by Boards magazine and a few more days of free navigation for the pros to enjoy the island of Sal
