The 4siete, 2008 (Los Alcazares - Murcia)
Galera Mompeán chronic Jesus and Luis Bernardeau Esteller:
The discussion was served ... has been much speculation about the arrival or not to lower hours of windsurfing, especially in a region where conditions are, a priori, always rated as more conducive to other disciplines and winter sports. Having had the opportunity to participate, so far this season in 2 evidence of recent national circuit, (Almería and Tarifa) and being one of the lucky attendees, as organizer and competitor, the first test of the Tour of Murcia Windsurfing, The 4siete 2008, I have to say that windsurfing is here again, it is more, I'd never gone.
The numbers speak for themselves, with thirty-seven enrolled come from Murcia, Almeria, Madrid, Vilajoiosa, Oviedo and Tanzania, and an east wind that more or less intensity accompanied us across the bridge, 7, 8 and 9 June has been performed in waters of Los Alcazares a competition for many will be remembered.
The 4siete of 2008 has managed to challenge the undisputed record all disciplines under one 3 days: long distance, slalom, freestyle and waves, the latter discipline that demanded organization and sailors move to the beaches of Calblanque. It should be stressed that this achievement would not have been possible without the motivation of participants and of course without the support of the Department of Sports Hon. City of Los Alcazares, Club Nautico Mar Menor, Murcia Sailing Federation, the National Secretariat and sponsors Funboard: MasWind, Jaws Shop, Sails Snails, and Varazú sirfly.com.
June 7: Inscriptions and long distance for sufferers
The hopeful anticipation of a lifting force 4 and the illusion previously expressed in forums, beaches and other events, makes all the sailors make their entries in the schedule announced by the organization, thanks to this pictures and sleeves of the competition are made in record time as competitors, within the premises of the NCTM, are rigging their candles and giving a good account of the picnic.
At noon, despite the announced forecast does not seem to be confirmed, the Race Committee decided to launch a long distance, do not go for the general, but to serve people to get wet and make contact with the race course in a heavenly and almost summery Mar Menor.
Finally get finished three sets of long-distance fall short for formuleros and become infinite for freesailors that go with 7.0 meters or less and freemove tables or freestyle. All of them are practically dominated by the army led by Alberto Casas Almeria Lopez "Toto" (E-61) and his impeccable and implacable outputs.
The day is completed with a performance night at the headquarters of the Club's leading electronic musician ... Tequila Jazznoize free for the brave.
June 8: again long distance and slalom knockout.
The day is more cloudy and it appears that finally make an appearance the long awaited release, however, as the day progresses, the wind fails to stabilize, so the organization and the chief judge of the race, the illustrious and still Oscar Alcaraz injured, decide that the sailors fight over quarter sleeve long distance that allows a discard in the classification of this discipline.
Finally, the conditions make judges decide kick off three new long distance sleeves. The first two with the same script the day before for Toto first two (E-61) and two seconds for his brother Jose Luis Casas Lopez (E-611), but in the third, and with enough wind to glide constant most of the fleet, there is surprise and Jesús Sánchez Galera, local windsurfer, wins the manga followed by Francisco Perez
(E-444) and Manolo Baldó (E-818), both of Almeria. Little reward for Francisco Perez after coming on purpose that day from their land, was on the verge of hyperthermia with neoprene long, broke a boom, sail and do not know how many more things to finally be fined improper parking. Bad luck this time for this great windsurfer.
Taking advantage of the lift had gained strength and the slalom race course, in a display of the organization, half hope half forecast was already assembled from early in the afternoon, we decided to launch the previous slalom break and entry into the pits for change material.
With the need to obtain a result in the discipline is decided to divide the fleet into two, so that the top eight of each sleeve would go directly to the final. But the east, away from imposed, racanea in intensity causing the sleeves are made with a gusty wind that requires full attention by the sailors, which is coupled to a role of the wind that makes the journey in a trap forcing the competitors to lie almost entirely to a downwind suicide and then, after passing the first mark having to adhere to the next.
In the final and to the astonishment of all, and in marginal conditions of wind and after changing the finish line to make travel more accessible, demand the young local rider Andrew Lizán Garcia (E-184) followed by the ineffable David Joy Cantabella (E-600),
The third place went to the illustrious sailor Jose Pedro Barceló (E-1119) At night and as spectators of a mighty wind that made the Mar Menor in inhospitable and attractive spot was held barbecue dinner in the Club. Between courses, the organization looks at weather forecasts and know the minds ... the idea is clear, 10 in the morning hours originally scheduled, it is too late ... runners quoted at 9.00 am for what is sensed as an epic journey.
June 9: A historic day. Qualifying freestyle and waves.
At 8 am, Andres Serrano, Cape Man gives the first warning, "in Santa Pola is for 4.7, I Calblanque way, I'll tell you when you arrive." While in Los Alcazares, rain has not stopped the lift, very anortado, including as expected. As I walk alone by the pier of the port, I know it will be a great day. At 9.00 am, with a seriousness and punctuality British participants, without detachment Almeria holiday as it is not in your community, go to the meeting of patterns. The sun peeks shyly and is already up to 4.7. The plan is to perform a freestyle single elimination and quickly move the race course to Calblanque. Meanwhile messages arriving reporters stationed there: wind for 5.2 feet and a wave, maybe more.
Freestyle test is spectacular, with riders performing maneuvers inches of sand, some even closer, as Jaime Bernardeau who finished jogging on the beach and Juanjo Bafalliu who collected some snail with his back against one of their forwards' on sand. "
The few pedestrians who dare to defy the wind (gusts to 4.2) are amazed to see the beach near the Club cover sails and sailors doing their best to impress a panel of real luxury: Juan Pedro Garcia "Father" Felix and Oscar Garre Alcaraz. Prior to 0:30 has been completed the tie is loosely won by Juan Pedro Garcia (E-89) and flakas brutal. No time to draw breath, we call for the sailors at 1.30 pm in Calblanque. The die is cast. Before half-past all the attendees remain perplexed by an epic Calblanque waves 2 to 3 meters and side-off wind very light. Conditions for survival. We consider the possibility of back and do slalom on the Mar Menor or go to La Llana waves to compete in more affordable. The organization and the committee of judges, who joins John Cañavate replacing Felix Garre, who could not bear not to compete in their home spot, believe that once there you can step back and decide to start the competition.
The brave who dare to participate and not destroy their equipment in an attempt to have a difficult task, it is very difficult to trace due to lack of wind and the size of the surf, some do not succeed, but not least, once within the field of competition is better to wait a good series because the conditions do not guarantee to go for "all".
Only scored two sleeves surfed in twelve minutes (reduced to one in the final in miserable conditions of wind). In these terms come to the final: Paul Magana, Juan Pedro Garcia and Javier Aviles all usual magnificent Mediterranean spot, who are joined by Javier Garcia i Solbes, hosted from a day before the start of the competition in its distinctive Mercedes Vito metallic, and of course, happy to be a finalist.
In a difficult strategy of primarily manga and tactics, is Javier Aviles (E-717) who wins followed by Juan Pedro Garcia (E-89) and Paul. This result also gives the general classification of the race, which confirms the very great competition by Javi (E-717), without raising any suspicion in the first two days, dosed the classification in the slalom to clinch final triumph on the last day.
In the afternoon, after a long and painstaking work of developing the final rankings of the test took place at the headquarters of the Club Nautico Mar Menor the prize draw among participants and award winners in each of disciplines as well as the top three overall, counting with the presence of Councilman Don Pedro Sports and Celebrations Flames Herrera. During the ceremony also delivered to the family of Javier Abadia, friend and windsurfer, a commemorative trophy The 4siete 2008.
We may not be us who have to value it, not because we should not or can not, simply because some people are better placed to do this ... a week after messages and calls keep coming ... and it is thanks to them for what we are left with the feeling that the conditions, environment, people and everything else have collaborated to offer fun and exciting three days, three days of windsurfing in the well, three
days of the good.
