The second edition of the Begur Free Wave X Fun, organized by the Surfera Gironina closes the Catalan Circuit Funboard 2006 (CCF). Masdevall, and Recassens Sanllehy the podium in Begur. The mobility of the test date and in both spot and the wind from the south, were the formula for success for this regatta.
Begur Free Wave II X Fun which was scheduled for different weekends of October depending on the conditions, could finally be on 28 and 29. The Surfera Gironina, club affiliated to the Catalan Sailing Federation, together with the Secretary of the Class, prepared to the last detail so that all sailors were as comfortable as possible during the development of the test.
Registration: important new children's absences
Pre-registrations made through the website of the class (www.windsurfcat.com) were confirmed over Saturday morning. All sailors usual CCF not want to miss the last time in 2005 for points in the standings, despite the bad weather forecast for the weekend. The parties informed of rain and little wind for two days and this affected the final number of entries, which were twenty-four. Some important absences, such as Pastor and in the Canaries and Piñana Baltà in Formentera, could favor some in the final classification of the circuit. As usual new riders appeared on the entry list, as the children Alex Gali-91 CAT, CAT-43 Joan Gimenez, Sergio Espinosa E65 and seniors Josep Enric Serrano and Jaume.
Saturday 28: Little wind surfing and much
As stated in the rules of racing, at 10 am on Saturday convened the first meeting of event patterns. It reported, among other things, the possibility of extending the race to November 1st (bank holiday All Saints), provided that all registrants agreed with the postponement. In this way the organization intended to finish the test results, it was more likely to wind. The decision was left to a vote at the dinner on Saturday coinciding with the annual meeting of the Class.
All day the wind was blowing from the south 5 to 12 knots, sufficient to dispose of the competition. Given the situation the organization in accordance with the Secretary, Xavier Torres, decided to postpone the first possible departure the next day, Sunday the 29.
Some took to get their surfboards and demonstrate their skills with the waves. Others, however, rested the hotel, waiting for the dinner that was scheduled Surfera the Sun and Sea Restaurant Begur, where be held the Annual General Meeting. Despite the hunger windless day and did not miss paella and fideuá were quickly exhausted. With the cafes opened the meeting.
Dinner and assembly of class
Points covered in the class were basically meeting: Reports of the Territorial Secretary, racing calendar 2006 and modalities, promotion and class categories are: female, master, youth and children .... After the presentation by Torres went over to the other business. Several important issues were discussed and the methods (Freestyle, waves, Super X, slalom, speed, ...), the categories (the master and the child will be added in 2006) and mobile racing format. At the end of the meeting suggested the possibility of moving the race to Canet (best known spot with south wind) against the bad forecast for Sunday in Begur, an idea that was supported by all present. It also had to rate the possibility of the race on day 1, if there was no wind on Sunday.
Sunday 29: Canet, 25 knots of wind from south
Early in the morning, the organization decided to move the event to Canet! More than 25 knots of south regatistes confirmed and all eager to come and remove their equipment. He organized the convoy of cars and convened the first possible departure at 12 am. The deployment of vehicles and racing team surprised more than one on the beach of Canet, the show was ready.
Table of sleeves
To ensure a classification of the race, different heats were made up of six riders and thus gained time to perform the entire test. Thus four heats were played classification.
Given the sea conditions it was decided to rate both freestyle maneuvers like the Wave. With sails from 4.7 to 5.3 competitors showed their best skills: surfed, Aerials, Backloops, Forwards, Flaka, Chacho, Spock 540, Grubby, Volcano, Duck Tack, Table top, ...
The first heat, played by Alex Gali (CAT-91), Xavier Torres (Team Exocet & Space Dog Sails Ezzy Mast, Fly Up / E-74), Job Vermuelen (E-70), Jaume Oliveras (Angulo, Ezzy Sails / CAT-100), Roger Défez (JP, NP / CAT-29) and Enric Jaume, had to be repeated at the end of all heats at the request of the riders, because of the wind down in the middle of the sleeve. The riders were passed Vermeulen, Défez and Oliveras. In the second heat has turned the wind strengthened and the sailors Joaquim Figueras (E-96), Jordi Ibars (CAT-66), Pol Bertran (CAT-32), Aleix Sanllehy (F2, Arrows / CAT-555), Ferran Recasens (Gaastra / E-401) and Marius Solà (Ezzy Sails / E-79), struggled the most to reach the quarterfinals. The eliminated in this leg were Solà, Ibars and Bertran. The next heat faced Josep M. Aribau (E-95), Oriol Arnau (L'Escot / CAT-60), Alex Soler (DRR / CAT-27), Clàudia Torrelles (F2 / CAT-28) and Sergi Salvat (Gaastra, Sooruz / E-10) Sleeve from Arnau, Soler and Salvat. The final qualifying heat was played between Pau Guillot (CAT-14), Sergio Espinosa (E-65), Josep Serrano (CAT-50), Eric Sanllehy (F2, Arrows / CAT-1111), Xavier Masdevall (Tabou, Gaastra & Wetsuits, Sooruz / E-59) and Gerard Lopez (Tabou, Gaastra, Capgirell / CAT-49) being disposed Serrano, Espinosa and Lopez.
With the passing of the hours the wind conditions and sea state were getting better and the organization relentlessly raised the red flag of preparation. The first quarter-final consisted Oliveras, Défez, Recassens, A. Sanllehy, Vermeulen and Figueras. The struggle was frantic and good execution of the maneuvers could be seen from the beach. The judges finally bowed Sanllehy, Recassens and Oliveras. In the second quarterfinal composed Salvat, Soler, Arnau, Masdevall, Eric Guillot Sanllehy and were classified Sanllehy, Masdevall and Guillot.
The final was hard fought but all matched pools and Masdevall (Tabou, Gaastra & Wetsuits, Sooruz / E-59) was superb, really is a degree of experience and knows Masde. Aleix Sanllehy (F2, Arrows / CAT-555), youth revelation of CCF 2005, has much to learn yet but is already on the heels of Masde. Recassens (Gaastra / E-401) which are the waves were strong at the level of the situation and scored the highest waterfalls in the session. It should be noted the great performance of Oliveras (Angulo, Ezzy Sails / CAT-100) a rider that made little noise and that surprised everyone in Begur, will they be their new sposnsors?. Eric Sanllehy (F2, Arrows / CAT-1111) with an international level, World Junior Champion in Slalom 42 of the IFCA, did not quite fit all the maneuvers (everyone can have a bad day). Guillot (CAT-14) rider of the old school to the new generation showed his good form and high level of their freestyle maneuvers.
Masdevall finally beat its competitors and was ranked first, followed by Aleix, Raca, Oliveras, and Eric Guillot. Actually all of them showed good level of windsurfing Catalan years is giving a lot of talk.
As for the child podium, leaving aside their performance on the water, you have to highlight your participation, persistence and passion to join the circuit. In Gali first position followed by Jimenez and juvenile classification followed Aleix Lopez and the only girl Claudia Torrelles all the Surfera Gironina. You admire the effort in promoting Surfera windsurfing in your area and support the younger races.
The sad note of the evidence the injury was Roger Défez in the realization of a finished Backloop back, which could be heard from the beach. The impressive jump last lap ended with a shock to all, Roger came out of the water screaming for help!. Frightened and bewildered was accompanied by the organization to the nearest hospital (Figueres) to undergo a medical examination because she was choking and spitting out some blood. Finally all was a shock and a domestic minihematoma in the left lung, in addition to the low of 15 days without being able to browse or exertion. On days like these understand the obligation of any organization to demand the federal board for racing, which offers a very professional medical equipment and specialized.
Within days windsurfcat shall make available to all stakeholders the DVD of the race and hope that Rifà (official camera) with his film surprised us on the beach.
