New regulation PWA 2008
The year 2007 has meant a great step forward for professional windsurfing. They have added 4 new events to the calendar year not to mention the continuation and expansion of the hitherto existing. Also the wind has been excellent, being able to hold 24 of the 25 competitions planned.
In the event of Sylt met the board of directors of the PWA (1) in Hamburg and voted on some changes to the current rules are in effect for 2008.
- The maximum number of sleeves in slalom competitions is 15 sleeves, and added a third after discarding the sleeve 13.
- Regarding the material limit for 2008 is continued with the same set of 4 sails and two boards per event but it adds a wildcard, the ability to register a table and extra candle for a single calendar event.
- For 2009, the material shall be limited to 6 sails and 3 boards to register at the first event to be used all year round. To thereby facilitate movement of the runners.
- The deadline for manufacturers to record the material for the PWA slalom 2008 is December 15, 2007.
- For the minimum size slalom sail numbers passing at a height of 18cm, in Freestyle or wave numbers may be smaller but must be visible and appear on both sides of the sail.
- Format change for Freestyle: It limits the number of maneuvers. From now the race director specifies a maximum number of cycles per heat of which will score the best. This simplifies the task of judges. Plus it will allow riders to display their risk more radical maneuvers.
(1) The board of the PWA's are: President Jimmy Diaz, vice president Phil McGain and members of the board Svein Rasmussen, John Skye, Pieter Bijl, Martin Brandner, Arnon Dagan and Karin Jaggi who is the representative of the runners.
