Nivea World Cup Sylt PWA 2005 - Day 5: Test Wave

Wave begins competition in the Nivea World Cup Sylt 2005

And early, the first windsurfers were already in the water, preparing for the test wave. The German Steffi Wahl (G-303, F2) was the first to enter the water at 7 am when there was almost no sunlight, no distinction nor the model of the sail from the beach. An hour later, the men's competition started with 25 knots of wind on the left sideshore, featuring Thomas Traversa (F-3, Tabou / Gaastra) who made a double forward book.

The action continued until 9:30 pm when the wind suddenly stopped leaving the competition stopped until further notice. The test was resumed somewhat later, completing the first round without any surprises. Just to finish this first round, the wind dropped and stood onshore, as saying the forecasts. The wind picked up but the waves were down due to the change of direction, forcing the fleet to remain grounded until down the tide and the waves grow again. About 15:30, the conditions had improved sufficiently to start the first race of round 2, in which Robby Swift (K-89, JP / Neil Pryde) faced with Horrocks (K-303, JP / Neil Pryde) and Bjorn Dunkerbeck (E-11, North Sails) beating Ben van der Steen (NED-57, Fanatic / Neil Pryde) whose material was destroyed by the awesome shorebreak that was beginning to mount. Two rounds later, local hope Bernd Flessner (G-16, F2 / Neil Pryde) was eliminated by Orjan Jensen (E-19, North Sails). Two rounds later another German who had possibilities, Klaas Voget (G-4, Fanatic), was eliminated by Xavier Huart (F-33, Mistral / North Sails). The following sleeves offered no surprise and became the standard.

After completing the second round, the competition moved just down the beach where the waves was much better. The first to try the new place would be females. Not surprisingly, the top seeds were placed in the quarterfinals: Annemarie Reichman (H-98, Naish / Naish) vs. Karin Jaggi (Z-14, F2), Uli Hoelzl (AUT-123, F2 / Neil Pryde) against Iballa Moreno (E-63, Mistral / North Sails), Junko Nagoshi (J-11) against Nayra Alonso (E-4, Fanatic / Severne) and Silvia Alba (E-67, Tabou / Gaastra) against Daida Moreno (E-64 , Mistral / North Sails).

The men return to action for the final. This is where things got interesting: Robby Swift (K-89, JP / Neil Pryde) defeated the champion of the Slalom 42, Bjorn Dunkerbeck (E-11, North Sails). In that same race, Nik Baker (K-66, Mistral / North Sails) expired at Orjan Jensen (E-19, North Sails) with his powerful backside aerials. Vidar Jensen (N-44, North Sails) won Antoine Albeau (F-192, Neil Pryde) and young Alex Mussolini (E-30, JP / Neil Pryde) finished with the current wave world champion, Scott McKercher ( KA-181, Starboard / Severne), in a very tight beam. after this, Victor Fernandez (E-42, Fanatic) removed to Jonas Ceballos (E-40, Fanatic) with an incredible forward stalled. In another race, the favorite for the title wave, Kauli Seadi (BRA-253, Quatro / Naish) was facing Xavier Huart (F-33, Mistral / North Sails). The Brazilian did a high backloop and Chachoo air, making the sleeve, but Huart not put it any easier. In the sleeve end of the day, Peter Volwater (H-24, F2) beat John Skye (K-57, F2) and Greg Allaway (KA-38, Mistral / North) defeated Kevin Pritchard (US-3, Starboard / MauiSails).
