Victor Fernandez wins the Red Bull Topocalma Infernal
Curanipe "LIMBO, CLOSING THE GATES OF HELL"
Months of preparation for what would be the most important windsurfing event in Chile, for the third consecutive year organized the now legendary Surazo Topocalma Infernal, Chilean windsurfing championship that brings together the best national riders as the best windsurfers in the world to challenge the wind and the waves of Finance Topocalma.
Our international contacts we were able to confirm the presence of 5 of the leading windsurfers in the world, the Brazilian Kauli Seadi, recently crowned the world champion would send us a confirmation email .. garoto big ... then followed the Spanish professional circuit number 5 Victor Fernandez, who after a failed attempt to embark in Spain and lost a week's trip to Chile came to our event ... confirmations followed with the defending champion of last year Infernal Topocalma of 2004, the Norwegian Vidar Jensen 8 of the professional circuit who brought us a big surprise, traveling with his brother, another major corridor located in the position 23 of the classification, Orjan Jensen and when we thought our team was complete, English photographer John Carter, iconic photographer professional circuit we confirmed the presence of Timo Mullen, great windsurfer and former Irish runner on the world circuit.
On the other hand our national army was ready, 11 riders selected with the best eyes to fight side by side with the professionals who visited us, the waves of Finance and leaving up the name of Chile.
Weeks of meetings with our audio-visual equipment to determine the best shots, and angles were closed with a welcome lunch in Matanzas, our operations center and it would be the week before the event.
Monday 12 comes all the foreign team and moved the entire team working to Matanzas (20 people in total).
Tuesday 13 in the morning dawns with Vaguada Coast Matanzas (executioner of any windsurfer) and a southern breeze ... spend the hours and the forecast is improving .... the south wind is stronger and the valley begins to withdraw, our decision is to start with the whole group to make the first Topocalma and photo shoots and video, along with releasing the body of flight hours each runners had. The result was good, incredible complex maneuvers could see and capture technique, many of them never before seen ... Kauli, Victor and the Jensen brothers, did not stop to jump and twist in the air, after several hours of sailing we pull back Matanzas to rest and check every last one of the most amounts and verify that everything was in order, the most important thing was to see that improved meteorological forecasts every hour, ensuring excellent conditions for the weekend, I was all set .
Wednesday, 14 dawns on Coast Matanzas trough again, but this time there is no breeze or anything south we encourage, forecasts leave us alone, a group of back to Santiago in search of all the material for assembly, while other members of stay in Matanzas team to monitor weather forecasts and minor details. Within 24 hours all the forecast was changed, and there was nothing good on our side, we had to make an important decision, and we stayed and risked the championship and all the visual material or we moved all the equipment in search of better weather to the south, telephone calls to meteorological centers in the U.S. and our knowledge on the subject confirmed that the best decision was to move to Quidico, IX region. The weather did not improve and the time we finished, the international corridors were nervous because it's your job to be sailing and not with arms crossed waiting for the conditions, and ours is to look for these conditions ....
Friday, 16 are 8:30 am, our whole team is working up to the truck equipment, ordering equipment, watching the Coastal Trough is still on our heads, very condensed, sure I made the best decision we got on the cars and caravan we move to our final destination, the beaches of the seventh region Curanipe to this location conditions were better, with more likely to wind and waves best size, in a nutshell that's what we were looking for.
Our first stop was in Rapel, fill the ponds and leave for Litueche looking for our photographer Alfredo Escobar and thence by caravan has Curanipe. Saturday 17 dawns with bright sunshine ... south wind increasing and the wave starting to grow .... the smile of those who were present there was very noticeable. Tables, candles and audiovisual material finally comes out of their sheaths, run from one area code to another assembling the equipment, get a following and meet under the big tent of Red Bull that protects us from the sun to confirm the championship with the present and define the characteristics of this. The sleeves are defined by series heads, which in this case correspond to professional cyclists .... A flag marked ilera we outline the way out to the beach ... the photographers and audiovisual equipment is installed on the beach, ready for action ... the wind rises and the waves start to come in order, turn to see incredible jumps and maneuvers strange shapes ... spend hours and even the conditions are not conducive to a championship INFERNAL are 16:00 and decided to sail down Curanipe, a beach located about 10 kilometers further south .... Sunday 18 again dawn with bright sunshine and good south wind ... again the conditions are on our side and we took the championship in Mermaid Beach, where we were installed. Water enters a completely Kauli inspired like the rest of the runners, begins with a great AIR TAKA leaves us with an open mouth ... is a large goiter and AEREALS a hand .... still a great AEREALS Victor Fernandez with a hand and upper landing BACKLOOP dramatically ... we continue with this show to reach the semifinals, where Vidar Jensen, wanting to be crowned champion again impresses with a double foward LOOP ....
