A new fin box system has arrived- thanks to Fabien Vollenweider the multi fin board world will be a better place!

What is it? A super light and functional finbox system allowing for slight adjustments and a huge weight savings over conventional boxes. The new Slot Box uses two side screws to lock the fin in place. Once tightened, the fins will not move. The screw heads are the same as your footstrap screws so no additional tools are required, you can make easy adjustments and dial in the setting that works best for your conditions.

Advantages: Weight, weight and strength! That is right, less weight and more strength. A normal box is in the 300 gram range while the new Slot Box comes in at less than 80 grams. With the new multi fin boards, 4 boxes add up to a lot of weight and this weight savings is very welcomed.

Are my old fins useless? Absolutely not - The Slot Box system allows for your old fins to fit right in. Take out the pin and trim down the base and you can use your old trusty fins for years to come.

After 2 years of developing a new finbox system for Tabou’s multi fin boards, Fabien gave the rights to any and all brands to use this system free of charge. “I believe this is the best system to use for multi fin boards- it is simple, light, strong and proven. Starboard se apunta al Slot-Box:

With already four brands adopting the Slot Box for their next generation wave boards and wave fins (Starboard, Tabou, Drake and MFC and with more brands to follow), the new Slot Box promises to become a new windsurfing standard and potentially replace the US box altogether.

The great thing about the Slot box is the weight saving. A classic US box weighs a bulky 300g with its dense, plastic fibre-nylon molding and a composite PVC/PU foam/Glass fibre box wrapped around it. The Slot Box weighs just 77 grams. When you look at modern wave boards with two, three, four or even five finboxes, these weight savings add up to something pretty interesting.

The other advantage of the Slot Box is its dimensions: it uses the same dimensions as US boxes which means that current US base fins fit inside once the pin has been removed.

Slot Boxes use two specially designed side screws to lock the fin in place. These screws hold the fin in and also apply sideways pressure. This ensures that there's always zero wobble in the fin once fitted. For convenience, the screws' head are designed to fit with the same screwdriver as the one used for footstraps and air-valve fitting.

The Slot Boxes are currently available in two sizes: Slot Box 10 and Slot Box 13. Fit a Slot Box 10 fin inside a Slot Box 13 box and you have 3cm of adjustment room. Slot Box plugs are also available. These are used to close-off any unused boxes.

At 77g per box, the Slot Box opens up new opportunities when it comes to multi-fin board designs. And before long, maybe we'll see even single fin boards switch from the humble US Box to the new Slot Box. Definitely a space to watch.

Me huelo que todas las marcas que fabrican en COBRA se van a tener que adaptar a este sistema.
Lo podemos rebautizar como "COBRA BOX".

Parece que todo son ventajas; Caja usbox 300grs, caja slot box 77 grs, se pueden cerrar a gusto del rider con un tapón roscado, en las traseras son ajustables, las aletas usbox una vez cortada del talón la nariz y retirado el pasador trasero ajustan perfectamente, los tornillos tienen la misma cabeza en estrella que los de los footstraps y tornillo de válvula (solo se necesita un destornillador para todo), prometen solidez a la presión lateral de la aleta, etc.

En tablas multialetas, el ahorro de peso seria importante.

Vamos una modificación del FCS, pero con los mismos problemas que tiene el sistema FCS, yo ya he visto ese sistema de Starboard el día de estreno de una tabla pasándose de rosca en el cajetín y quedándose sin poder usar la tabla ese día (perdón era el sistema anterior, pero la parte que se paso de rosca era el cajetín no el tornillo, esperemos hayan mejorado eso). El mayor problema que e veo es que lso tornillos no son tornillos standard que se encuentren en cualquier ferretería (o eso parece)

Vamos que están copiando el peor sistema de los que existen en surf y mejorándolo un poco, podían copiar de lo bueno. Por lo menos en este nuevo sistema ya no son llaves Allen y van con estrella por lo que parece, algo mejorara el asunto.

Con lo cojonudo que es el sistema FUTURES con un solo tornillo y lo resistentes y cojonudas que son los cajetines y ligeras las aletas porque al enganchar por delante y no por los lados la estructura permite aligerar material en la estructura de la base y un montón de peso y la comodidad de solo tener que apretar o soltar un tornillo que por cierto es de una calidad mucho mayor.

Quatro urtiliza un sistema parecifdo a Futures, un solo tornillo y delante, además un tornillo de verdad que se consigue en cualquier ferretería, una pena que no se hayan preocupado para que fuera perfecto de esconder un poco más la cabeza, yo se los he substotuido por unos con cabeza avellanada que quedan prácticamente perfectos.
